Irish Birth Records

Birth records started to be registered in Ireland in 1864. Record of people born in the Irish State from 1864 are available from the General Register Office Dublin. If you are searching for records of ancestors born prior to 1864, you may be able to find them in church records such as baptism records.

When you recieve an Irish Birth Record you get the following:

  • Persons date of birth
  • Place of birth (town, city,street, townland\village).
  • Fathers name, address and occupation.
  • Mothers name and maiden name.
  • Name, address and relationship of the individual who notified authorities about the birth (including a note of the time the notification was presented

Dublin’s General Register Office (GRO) maintains Irish birth records and includes the name and place of birth of the individual. Records since 1903 also include each mothers mainden name.
